This month’s Athlete of the Month is Jesse Seales.
Jesse is a senior here at West Jessamine and runs cross-country and track for the school. He has run cross-country for seven years and track for a total of five. He didn’t run track his sophomore year, as he was out of the country, in France, for his second semester. However, he was grateful for being able to run his junior year, saying, “junior year was amazing and I’m so thankful I got to run with the team.”
When asked what in particular made junior year so special, he responded, “Our team was really strong and encouraging and I was on a 4×800 relay team that made it to state.” He also added that qualifying for state was one of the proudest moments of his running career.
As for his goals for this season, Jesse stated, “I want to break 17:00 in the 5k and to have our guy’s place 1st in regions and top 15 in state. It’ll be tough and we’ll have to push hard but I know we can do it.”
In addition to being a great athlete, Jesse also participates in challenging academics, taking AP Statistics and AP Environmental Science here at West, and both Literature and Culture and Radio Production at Asbury University.
Jesse is looking at a few colleges; at the top of his list are Vanderbilt University and Purdue University. When asked if he would run in college, he said, “I’m definitely interested in running in college, and it really depends on where I go to college whether I do or do not run.”
When Jesse is in college, he is interested in studying computer science.
