West Jessamine Golf

West Jessamine’s golf team has been known for their greatness in the past, and this year was not any different. Sydney Howard, a senior member of the girls’ golf team, said, “This was the best season yet. It was filled with a lot of challenges and positive experiences and it was a great way to end my four years of golf at West Jessamine.”

This year, the girls’ golf team gained two new team members, Elayna Schnake and Davis Tursany. Morgan Lewis, a sophomore this year, improved tremendously; these girls will certainly continue the excellence for the next couple years. Judianne Speach, a senior, stated, “Each tournament was a lot of fun– from the loud van rides, to supporting one another on the golf course, to chowing down on burritos or burgers afterward. I love the high school season because although it’s an individual sport, my team really encourages each other.” The golf team played a lot of tournaments in rain or shine. Their last tournament was on Tuesday, September 29th. “Even though our last tournament was in the pouring rain, I wouldn’t have wanted this season to end any other way. I had a blast. I’m not sure if I’m ready for it to be over!” said Judianne. The team finished in 6th place, with Speach finishing 3rd as individual, and Howard just a few strokes from qualifying for State tournament.

The boys team appreciated their season just as much as the girls. They had a pretty big team this year with a total of 10 members, 6 being seniors. Their senior members include Chase Philpot, David Lee, Caleb Bol, Reese Slone, Clayton Collins, and Wells Ducas. Their team placed 3rd in regionals with a total of 311 points. Chase Philpot, a senior on the team, says, “We grew throughout the year, so that’s really all you can ask for. We gave it our best shot at regionals and came just two strokes from making it to state.” Overall, our golf teams never fail to put forth their best efforts and attitudes throughout every season, on and off the course.
