The West Jessamine Cross Country teams have both had outstanding seasons this year. In fact, they performed so well, they made it to state! The boys team, despite having to overcome the adversity of losing five varsity seniors last year, placed 28th overall. The girls team also had a stellar performance, placing 22nd overall. While at state, many members of both teams had PR’s (personal records) and senior Keagan White ran a 17:21.88, making him the 8th fastest runner in West Jessamine history. When asked about his team’s performance this season, he stated, “I couldn’t be more satisfied with the season. After losing seven varsity runners, both our coaches and the runners thought our guys would have trouble making it to state. But our varsity runners stepped it up and ran far better than last year. And our girls, losing only one varsity senior, dominated! I’m really excited to see how they do next year considering none of their top seven are graduating! So many of our athletes have invested so much time this year and have improved so much.” The way that Keagan spoke of the cross country team made it seem like it is a very tight knit group that pushes each other to perform to the best of their ability. Although many people consider cross country to be an individual sport, it sounds like our WJHS cross country team is breaking the mold by emphasizing teamwork and cooperation. They worked very hard to make it to state this season, and we should all be very proud of our boys and girls cross country team!
