Mario Kart has been out for a long time, and Mario Kart 8 is definitely not a game from the series that you should skip. It was released on May 30, 2014 and won the best sports/racing game and best family game by The Game Awards 2014.
Unlike most Mario Kart games, Mario Kart 8 has 12 cups (instead of 8) with 4 tracks each. In Grand Prix mode, you choose one of these cups to race in. Half of them are new and half are old. There are also different speeds you can play with. 50cc through 150cc aren’t new, but 200cc is. There is also 150cc Mirror mode too. Characters have different weights that determine their stats. The vehicle and wheels also determine stats. The heavy characters tend to have more speed, but less acceleration and handling, while light characters are the opposite. The new characters are Link, Villager, Isabelle, Pink Gold Peach, Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Baby Rosalina, and the Koopalings. Link and Pink Gold Peach are heavy, Villager, Isabelle, Tanooki Mario, and Cat Peach are medium weights, and Baby Rosalina is light. Wendy, Lemmy, Larry, Ludwig, Iggy, Roy, and Morton are the Koopalings in order from lightest to heaviest.
